Going Home
Before you can be discharged home, you must meet criteria which include the following:
  • your vital signs are stable
  • able to drink fluids
  • able to urinate
  • not experiencing nausea or vomiting
  • not have excessive pain
  • able to walk.
When your doctor decides you are ready to leave the hospital, a discharge order will be written. Your doctor and your nurse will give you instructions about post-hospital care. If you have questions about your medications, diet, activities or other matters, please be sure to ask the Surgical Services team. Should you have any questions or concerns when you are recovering at home, please refer to your discharge instructions given to you or call your doctor's office.
