Preparing for your Visit
It is our privilege to have you as a patient and our guest. If there is anything we can do to make your stay more pleasant, please tell a member of our staff. If you will need an interpretation service, please let us know so that we may assist you. To make your admission as easy as possible, we request that you take time to read this page and follow the instructions so everything will be ready when you arrive.

If you have not already done so, please call the Pre-Admit Nurse to schedule your pre-admit visit, 985-510-6093 or 985-510-6252. All surgery patients must meet or speak with the Pre-Admit Nurse before arriving for surgery.

As hospital stays after surgery become shorter, it is more important than ever for you to be prepared for surgery and to take an active part in your recovery. More than half of the surgeries performed at Cypress Pointe Surgical Hospital are done on an outpatient basis. Patients are cared for by our perioperative team in the Day Surgery Unit. As you read this information, write down any questions you want to ask your doctor and health care team members.

  • Before the day of surgery, make arrangements for someone to care for your children, parents, pets, or other dependents while you are in the hospital and after you are home.
  • Children younger than 12 years old are not allowed in the Day Surgery Unit.
  • Arrange to have someone such as family, friends, church members and/or neighbors provide help when you return home.
  • Cook and freeze nutritious meals so you will have some rest from the kitchen after surgery.
  • Check your home for fall hazards. Consider a purchase of safety items such as a bathtub mat, shower bench, or rail if needed. Rearrange furniture as needed.
  • Take care of cleaning your house and doing laundry before surgery.
  • Arrange for transportation to and from the hospital.
  • If you have anesthesia, you must have a responsible adult remain at the hospital until you are discharged in order to drive you home.
  • A parent or legal guardian must accompany a minor for surgery and remain at the hospital until the minor is discharged.
  • All parents, legal guardians, and/or responsible adults must remain in the waiting area to be available for the surgeon to discuss patient status and answer questions.

STEP 1: Pre-Operative Nurse will contact you.

To help expedite the handling of the registration process a few days prior to your scheduled procedure, our pre-registration office will call you to verify:
  • Your demographic information
  • Your insurance information
  • Your insurance eligibility and benefits with your health plan
  • Authorization on file for your services. For pre-scheduled procedures it is your physician's responsibility for obtaining any authorization that is needed. Everything is updated in the computer system for when you arrive.
  • Schedule day and time for your pre-op visit and pre-admit testing, if applicable. Your physician or Anesthesiologist will tell you if pre-admission testing is required before your procedure.
  • Give you ESTIMATED patient responsibility, which is due at PAT (Pre-admit testing or at time of surgery)

Step 2: Day of pre-admit visit and/or pre-admit testing.

Upon arrival, please report to the Concierge Desk, at Main Entrance of the hospital, check in at the desk, and you will then be seen by the next Registration Representative followed by the Pre-Admit nurse. For your convenience, you can review a list of registration forms under Registration/Patient Forms. You do not need to be fasting unless you are a "bariatric patient”.

  • Current prescription(s), non-prescription(s), over the counter, vitamins, herbs and diet pills, including inhalers.
  • Photo ID or driver license
  • Insurance card
  • Method of payment for any co-pay or deductible that will be due
  • Copy of Power of Attorney if applicable
  • Copy of Living Will if applicable
  • Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Legal guardian must have proof of guardianship.
  • If any pre-surgery tests were performed at another lab or hospital, make sure you bring the results and other necessary paperwork with you.

Step 3: Day prior to surgery.

  • Take a shower the night before AND the morning of surgery with antibacterial soap, and put on clean, freshly washed clothes to come to the hospital. Please wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing.
  • You may brush your teeth, but DO NOT swallow any water.
  • If you are taking medication for any condition, please bring all medication(s) with you the day of surgery.
  • If you have been told to take medication on the day of surgery, take them with an ounce (2 tablespoons) of water ONLY.
  • Remove ALL body piercing and jewelry; leave items at home.
  • Contact lens and/or dentures cannot be worn in the operating room. Please bring a case for these items with you on the day of surgery.

  • DO NOT suck on mints, chew gum, eat or drink anything including water 8 hours before your surgery (unless your physician instructed you otherwise).
  • DO NOT smoke the evening prior to or the morning of your surgery. Smoking causes bronchial irritation and may increase the likelihood of breathing problems during anesthesia.
  • DO NOT wear makeup or nail polish.

All co-insurance and deductibles are required to be paid before service. Self-Pay patients are required for cash price to be paid in full on or prior to date of service.
